Microsoft: Over one million apps downloaded from Office Store since launch

In January, Microsoft officially launched its Office Store, allowing users of Office software products to download third-party apps made for Office programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and others. Today, Microsoft announced that "well over" one million apps have been downloaded from the Office Store since its launch.

The announcement was made in a post on the Office blog, which also revealed plans to expand the reach of the Office Store to more international markets. The blog stated:

With the continuing momentum of the Office Store, we are delighted to share that starting this spring we"ll begin supporting Chinese, Russian, Dutch, Brazilian (Portuguese) and Italian language apps alongside the opening of 8 additional store fronts (Russia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Brazil).

In addition, Microsoft also announced that the Office Store will soon be able to support subscription-based apps for the first time. The blog stated, "Developers will have an even greater choice between free, trial, paid and subscription versions of their apps, broadening their reach to entirely new users, customers and segments." Developers who wish to submit subscription apps to the Office Store can start sometime later this month, and they will go live on the public Store page in November.
