Microsoft-owned Yammer pushes out new update

A month ago, Microsoft completed its acquisition of the business-themed social networking service Yammer. Microsoft paid a not-too-shabby $1.2 billion to integrate Yammer and its team in Microsoft"s Office division. Now Yammer has revealed plans for a major new update for their services, the first under their new parent company.

As reported by Venture Beat, Yammer has now added a new Inbox, which serves as a replacement for the service"s previous Private Messages feature. The new Inbox still allows its users to send private messages to each other but also lets them follow other chats, and prioritize which chats to check out.

Yammer has also added a way to show your fellow co-workers that you are online and, if need be, engage in chat conversations with them, much like how Facebook Messenger works in that service. Unlike Facebook, the new Yammer feature doesn"t allow users to stay online but become "invisible" to co-workers.

Yammer has also added new app integrations as well, including support for HootSuite, FuzeBox and more. All of Yammer customers will be able to use these new features over the next two week, according to the company. The Yammer iOS app will also soon add the new Inbox feature but there"s no word yet on when the Android Yammer app will get the same new feature.
