Over the weekend, Microsoft released its biannual list of features that will be deprecated or entirely removed from the next feature update to Windows 10. One item on the list for being deprecated - meaning that it will continue to exist (for now) but won"t continue to get new features - is the company"s Paint application, sparking outrage across the internet.
Normally, when something is being deprecated, one would assume that eventually, it will be removed. MSPoweruser got a statement from the company, and it turns out that things aren"t as bad as they seem.
"MS Paint is not going away. In addition to the new 3D capabilities, many of the MS Paint features people know and love like photo editing and 2D creation are in Paint 3D – the new app for creativity, available for free with the Windows 10 Creators update. In the future, we will offer MS Paint in the Windows Store also for free and continue to provide new updates and experiences to Paint 3D so people have the best creative tools all in one place."
In other words, the app will continue to live on through the Windows Store, although based on the statement, it doesn"t sound like Microsoft is planning any new features for it. Instead, it"s very clear that the firm wants you to use its Paint 3D app, which originally shipped with the Creators Update.
But the good news is that even if you don"t care for Paint 3D, you"ll still have the opportunity to use the classic Paint app for the foreseeable future.
