According to a report from Windows Central, Microsoft is getting ready to update its cheapest consumer-oriented laptop in the Surface lineup. The Surface Laptop Go 2, codenamed "Zuma," should hit stores in June this year.
The Surface Laptop Go is a somewhat uninspiring affordable laptop for students and people who need a no-frills Windows laptop for less demanding daily tasks. For the base price of $549, the Surface Laptop Go provides powerful enough hardware, a good display, and solid build quality. The upcoming Surface Laptop Go 2 should preserve this paradigm.
Rumors claim the Surface Laptop Go 2 will not bring many changes. Microsoft wants to refresh the laptop"s hardware with newer Intel Core i5 11th Gen processors (the current model uses Intel Core i5 10th Gen CPUs) and give the device a fresh coat of paint. Price and configs should also remain the same, with the base model offering a puny 64 GB eMMC storage paired with 4 GB of RAM for $549 (currently available for $399 from Microsoft). A fingerprint sensor in the power button will also remain a benefit of more expensive models.
Windows Central claims the Surface Laptop Go 2 should come with a new "Sage" color, which will join the current Platinum, Ice Blue, and Sandstone variants. Other specs will remain unchanged.
Here is a breakdown of all three Surface Laptop Go configurations currently available:
Processor | Memory | Storage | Display | Fingerprint | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Intel Core i5-1035G1 | 4 GB | 64 GB eMMC | 12.4" PixelSense 1536x1024 (148 PPI) 3:2 with 10-point touch | No | $549 |
8 GB | 128 GB SSD | Yes | $699 | ||
256 GB SSD | $899 |
Microsoft usually unveils new Surface computers at its spring and autumn events, so expect the company to announce the Surface Laptop Go 2 in two months.
