It’s only been a few months since Nokia launched its first Android handsets for developing markets. But now everything points towards a refresh of the Android-powered Nokia X line, taking place Monday. A timer has appeared on the Nokia Conversations blog, counting down until the launch of new devices.

Not too long ago, it would have seemed impossible to imagine Nokia launching an Android-powered device, but then it actually happened. Now that Microsoft has acquired the handset division from Nokia, they’re about to go through the same weird process. Everything indicates that Microsoft will launch new devices for the X line, making these the first Android phones to be shipped by Microsoft.
The original X phones; we expect a similar design for the new generation
The Nokia X line was always destined for developing markets and as such, it was lower-specced and aggressively priced. The X2 is expected to bump those original specs while also keeping a competitive price.
The Nokia X2 is rumoured to have a bigger 4.3-inch screen with WVGA resolution, 1GB of RAM, a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 4GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera. The new phone is also rumored to have a physical home button. Similar devices with some variations are also expected to accompany this one, just like the XL and X+ handsets did in the first generation.
Although, these specifications are a step up from the original Nokia X, they are slightly less than those found on the Moto E and Moto G which are competitively priced smartphones. We’ll have to wait and see what Microsoft’s plans for this X line are and whether the company does actually intend to push these devices forward.
