Now that Microsoft is back on track with monthly updates for its Xbox One console, users should also be reminded to update their controllers with the new firmware that’s being released.
As part of the February update, to be publicly released soon, Microsoft is also pushing a small firmware update for its wireless controllers. The new firmware brings some “stability improvements” which weren’t detailed but also bring must faster connection times between the controller and the Xbox.
Right now, only users in the Preview program can take advantage of the new features but, rest assured that after being beta tested the firmware will arrive on all devices.
To update a controller you’ll need to physically connect it to the Xbox One via a USB cable, then go into Settings and hit the “update a controller” button. The whole process takes a couple of minutes but you won’t be able to use the controller in that time. And, of course, each controller needs to be updated separately.
Besides the improvements mentioned above, the February update will bring transparent tiles, Game Hubs and a number of new features to Xbox One users and we’ll let you know as you as it becomes available.
