Microsoft releases November update for Surface Duo with improvements

Microsoft released the Surface Duo on September 10 in the United States, and the company had promised before the release that the device would get security and feature updates for three years. Living up to that promise, the first update for the Surface Duo was released last month, and today, a new one is rolling out.

Just like last month, the updates are rolling out to unlocked variants of the Duo first, so if you got yours from AT&T, you"ll have to wait a little longer. The October update took about one extra week to roll out to those customers, so it should be similar this time. As for what"s new:

Software version Update info
2020.1014.61 (Unlocked Device)

This update:

  • Addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin - November 2020.
  • Refines camera image quality.
  • Improves moving or dismissing of apps when spanned across both screens.
  • Improves touch stability.
  • Improves device stability.

Microsoft isn"t all too specific with most of the improvements, but the firm has been working to address some of the issues pointed out in the early reviews of the Duo. While the form-factor is innovative, some issues with spanning and moving apps were pointed out by reviewers, alongside other software bugs. The camera improvements should also be welcome, though it"s unlikely that they will do any miracles for the single 11MP sensor on the phone.

The update is rolling out now, so if you have a supported device and don"t see it, you may just need to wait a little longer for it to show up.
