It was at Microsoft"s Ignite 2017 conference last year that the company announced Office 2019, the next and possibly last perpetual license of its Office suite. The first preview was made available for businesses in April, but that was for client products only. Today, Microsoft is releasing commercial previews for Skype for Business and Exchange Server.
One of the key features of Skype for Business 2019 is streamlined Teams migration, as the new perpetual license is really aiming to get users to move to the cloud. That"s why it will also introduce new features like Cloud Voicemail and Cloud Auto Attendant.
Exchange Server 2019 can taker advantage of more powerful systems, with up to 48 cores and 256GB RAM. It also features better search functionality, and new calendar features such as Simplified Calendar Sharing and Do Not Forward.
Unfortunately, SharePoint Server 2019 and Project Server 2019 previews aren"t available yet. Fortunately, you can actually read through the SharePoint 2019 reviewer"s guide, thanks to Microsoft leakster WalkingCat.
If your business is subscribed to Office 365, then you should have all of the new features in these products already, or at least most of them. Office 2019 is bringing features that subscription users have been receiving as a service, and putting them in a perpetual license. Office 2019 should be available later on this year.
