Users of Microsoft"s SharePoint 2013 can now access a standalone version of the SkyDrive Pro client without having to have the rest of Office 2013 installed; Microsoft released the SkyDrive Pro sync client earlier this week.
In a post on the SharePoint blog, Microsoft stated:
This standalone client allows users of SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online in Office 365 to sync their personal SkyDrive Pro and any SharePoint 2013 or Office 365 team site document libraries to their local machine for access to important content on and offline.
In addition to not needing Office 2013, this version of SkyDrive Pro can also be installed and used alongside older versions of Office. Users of Office 365 Pro Plus, Office 365 Small Business Premium, and Office Professional Plus 2013 already have the SkyDrive Pro client and don"t need to download this version.
Microsoft recently added a number of features for the consumer version of SkyDrive, including a new photo timeline layout that lets users view both the time and the event where their images were taken. Microsoft also added a way to view thumbnails on SkyDrive for Word and PowerPoint files. Earlier in May, Microsoft revealed that SkyDrive had over 250 million users worldwide.
