While there are plenty of media outlets that cover the happenings at Microsoft already (including the one you are reading right now), it looks like the company wants to give its customers, especially IT professionals, a more direct avenue for getting news from Redmond.
Today, Microsoft announced the launch of the Tech Companion app on its Server and Cloud blog, which it says will offer access to the company"s "latest news on products, features, and upcoming events, virtually anywhere." The app is currently available for Windows Phone and Android devices and will be released later for Windows desktop, Windows 8.1 and iOS platforms.
The apps allow users to customize the content coming from the various Microsoft news feeds into categories like products, terms, features, and functions. Once that"s done, the feeds can be viewed and automatically updated via Live Tiles. It also includes bookmarks for users to save the address of a particular news topic, article or blog.
The Tech Companion app also features a way to search through Microsoft"s blogs, wikis, and library topics and those search strings can be saved for future access. The app uses a Microsoft Account so if a person switches devices they can sync up the app to their previous settings.
