In December, Microsoft offered Visual Studio 2013 owners a release candidate version of Update 1. Today, the company released the final version of that patch, which offers a number of bug fixes to the software development tools.
As with the RC build, the final version of Update 1 does not offer anything in the way of major new features. However, S. Somasegar, the corporate vice president of the Developer Division at Microsoft, states in a blog post today that it does incorporate improvements based on feedback from current users. He states, "For example, we heard your feedback about running Visual Studio in environments without IE10+, and have made several improvements to this experience in Update 1."
While this first update is mostly to address post-launch issues with the software, Microsoft is working on Update 2 that should be released later this spring. The company has already announced that Update 2 will add some new features to Visual Studio 2013 and will also include the first update for Team Foundation Server 2013.
Microsoft released the RTM version of Visual Studio 2013 in October, although it did not get a formal launch until early November. Somasegar stated today, "Two million developers watched the Visual Studio launch videos online, and tens of thousands joined in person at events around the world."
