Microsoft releases Visual Studio '14' preview; available to download now

If you are a developer, we know that Visual Studio is likely a huge part of your workflow, and Microsoft is working to make its premier developer tool even better. Over the past year, the company has been releasing updates to Visual Studio at a regular cadence and today, they are taking another big step.

Microsoft has announced the availability of a technical preview for the next version of VS, that it currently refers to as Visual Studio "14". You can download the update via the link at the bottom of this post - but do keep in mind that this is a preview, so move cautiously if you are using a production machine.

If you are curious about what is new, C# and VB compilers and IDE support are fully built on the .NET Compiler Platform ("Roslyn"), an early look at the Visual Studio tooling experience for ASP.NET vNext, as well as the ASP.NET 4.5 Web Application templates. Additionally, there are new templates included for targeting ASP.NET vNext and support for user-defined literals, noexcept, alignof and alignas, and inheriting constructors from C++11, generalized lambda capture, auto function return type deduction, and generic lambdas from C++14, as well as many more new C++ features.

For developers out there, this is obviously good news and as always, Microsoft is looking for your feedback on the software. While there is no date for the final release of Visual Studio "14", given that updates have been pushed out pretty regularly, you likely won"t have to wait long.
