Microsoft is releasing yet another cumulative update to Windows Insiders on the Slow and Release Preview rings. This one is KB4464455, and it brings the build number to 17763.107.
The Windows 10 October 2018 Update was originally released at the beginning of the month, skipping over the Release Preview ring entirely. It wasn"t long before some users were finding that their files were getting deleted upon upgrading, and the update was pulled from Windows Update a few days later.
Insiders got a fix to test on Patch Tuesday, and then another one a week later. Everything seemed fine for a re-release of the October 2018 Update, until users started reporting a major issue with ZIP file extraction. As it turns out, when you try to extract a ZIP file on top of files that exist with the same names as the ones you"re trying to extract, the dialog to ask if you want to replace those files doesn"t show up, the extraction fails, and it doesn"t tell you. Moreover, if you try to cut and paste these files, the source file will be deleted.
That"s the main issue that"s fixed in today"s cumulative update. Here"s the full changelog:
We fixed the issue where dragging (extracting) files from a .zip file in File Explorer to a write-protected location you don’t get a “Do you want to replace these files” prompt and the copy action fails silently.
We fixed an issue causing roaming profiles to not work correctly.
Microsoft only released a single update on Patch Tuesday for those that already upgraded to Windows 10 version 1809 before it was pulled, so they"re not getting to test out these fixes that they need. Presumably, those on the production build will get this update on Patch Tuesday, which is November 13.
Assuming that no other major issues arise, this should be the last major issue that has to be fixed before re-releasing the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. That could happen as soon as tomorrow if Microsoft wants to stick to its October timeframe like it did in April with the April 2018 Update.
