Today, Microsoft released Windows 10 Insider Preview build 20226 to the Dev channel. It"s pretty standard to see a new build on a Wednesday; however, the firm released it a bit earlier than normal. It usually shows up at 10am PT, but it was about a half-hour early.
As usual, not much is new. There"s one new feature, which is all about storage health monitoring. It detects abnormalities in your storage, so you"ll know ahead of time if it"s about to fail. There"s also a new Settings experience in Your Phone to better manage multiple devices, but that"s an app update and not part of the actual build.
Here"s the full changelog:
Storage health monitoring to protect user data
Attempting to recover data after drive failure is both frustrating and expensive. This feature is designed to detect hardware abnormalities for NVMe SSDs and notify users with enough time to act. It is strongly recommended that users immediately back up their data after receiving a notification.
Clicking on the notification or navigating to the drive properties page in Storage Settings (Settings -> System -> Storage -> Manage disks and volumes -> Properties) will provide additional details.
As usual, this build comes from the rs_prerelease branch, which is where new features show up first. It"s not tied to a feature update though, so eventually, a block of features will be split off to head over to the Beta channel.
