Microsoft reportedly refreshing its Surface Pro X with new colors and SQ2 processor

Microsoft"s got a new Surface Pro X coming later this year, according to a report from Zac Bowden of Windows Central. There aren"t a lot of surprises, as it"s supposed to be a minor refresh, which is typical for a second-generation Surface product.

For one thing, it will use a Microsoft SQ2 processor, which is based on the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G. The original SQ1 was just a Snapdragon 8cx with an overclocked CPU and GPU, and frankly, the 8cx Gen 2 maintains the same architecture, once again only jacking up clock speeds. It"s unclear what changes we"d actually see from an SQ2. 5G is a possibility though.

There will also be some aesthetic changes, as the chassis will now come in platinum, which has historically been the standard color for Surface PCs. In fact, the Pro X was the first to launch without a platinum version. It was also the first tablet to launch without an option for different colored keyboards, so that"s set to change too. With the Surface Pro X 2, or whatever it"s called, there will be a variety of Surface Keyboards.

That should be all there is to know about the Surface Pro X 2, but the report also suggested that AMD64 emulation should be coming to Insiders before the end of the year, something that we exclusively reported on last November. Currently, Windows on ARM PCs can run native ARM apps and emulated x86 apps, but if you"ve got an AMD64-only app, you can"t run it. That should be changing soon.

As usual, Microsoft"s hardware event is set to take place in October, so we"ll find out more soon.
