Microsoft reports more people using IE9

Microsoft has been trying to get more people to use Internet Explorer 9, the latest version of its web browser. Today, the official Internet Explorer blog site has posted up the latest update on the web browser"s usage in both the US and worldwide within Microsoft"s Windows 7 operating system. In the US, IE9 was accessed by 31 percent of Windows 7 users in September compared to 12.7 percent for Google"s Chrome browser and 12.6 percent for Mozilla"s Firefox browser. Worldwide, IE9 was accessed by 22.1 percent of Windows 7 users compared to 18.1 percent for Chrome and 15.7 percent for Firefox.

These numbers come from the Netmarketshare.com web site. That same site, however, still shows that Internet Explorer 8 is the most popular web browser in the world, regardless of what operating system the browser is used on. IE8 still has 29.91 percent of the world"s web browser market share, according to info gathered in September. Firefox 6.0 was the second most used browser with 11.41 percent, followed by Chrome 13.0 with 9.84 percent. Internet Explorer 9 is fourth worldwide with 8.72 percent and Internet Explorer 6.0 is fifth with 8.60 percent.

In its official blog, Microsoft has a link to another one of its web sites called the IE6Countdown. It"s designed to get more people to use more advanced versions of Microsoft"s web browser. Microsoft says the site is dedicated to getting the world to no longer use IE6 so that web site creators will then can safely drop support for the browser "saving hours of work for web developers."
