Confirmed: Microsoft reveals BUILD 2014 conference for April 2-4

Microsoft is getting ready once again to give developers a chance to go deep into Windows with the 2014 edition of its BUILD conference. This year"s event was held in late June in San Francisco and it seems Microsoft liked the location so much, the 2014 BUILD conference will be held in the "City by the Bay" yet again.

Microsoft"s news site shows that the exact date for BUILD 2014 will be April 2-4 and it will be held at the Moscone Center in downtown San Francisco. Registration for the event will begin on January 14th at noon Eastern time (9 am Pacific) so you have plenty of time to get your schedule all sorted out if you are interested in attending.

Microsoft used the inaugural BUILD event in Anaheim, California in 2011 to give developers the first chance to go hands-on with an early version of Windows 8. BUILD 2012 was held in Redmond, Washington at Microsoft"s headquarters just after the launch of Windows 8 and the 2013 edition was used to release the first public preview of Windows 8.1. The big question: What will Microsoft be showing off at BUILD 2014? Will we see the first "Threshold" version of Windows? Will we see the return of a Start menu to the desktop? Will we see the first Windows Phone smartphones built by Microsoft after they finish acquiring Nokia? Stay tuned; it should be interesting.

Update: It looks like Microsoft"s news site might have jumped the gun a bit on revealing the BUILD 2014 announcements; the news post is not showing up anymore on the page.

Update #2: It"s all official now, Microsoft has confirmed the conference and registration opens January 14th.
