Late on Wednesday, Microsoft revamped the UI for its various free Office Web Apps, making changes to the title bar and Ribbon interface. Today, the company revealed it will be adding a new feature to its Outlook Web App that will also include a change to its design.
The new addition is called People View, as described by Microsoft"s Office blog, and it has been created to give users a better and faster way to access critical emails from their most important contacts. The People View UI will be placed on the left side of the Outlook Web App and will include the names of important contacts and their pictures as well.
The blog says:
The number of unread messages from each person in your list appears next to their photo. When you click a person’s photo, the emails from that person in your Inbox are shown in the order received. You can read or respond to individual messages or take other quick actions like delete or flag as important.
People View also allows users to access bulk actions for each contact, so that emails from individual people can be quickly marked as read. Microsoft says People View has been designed so that it works in the background and learns which contacts a user communicates with the most and then determines the order they appear on the list. If a user stops emailing a contact, that person is eventually removed from the People List. Microsoft says the new feature will be rolled out to Outlook Web App business customers over the next several months.
