It wasn"t that long ago that Microsoft revealed its new meeting spaces built in the treetops. It looks like the firm will now take things just a step further by overhauling the look and feel of its campus.
The move is an attempt to modernize the aging campus that currently feels and looks like a set of offices. Instead, the firm envisions the new campus as a place filled with open spaces and plenty of light. It is expected to be a car-free zone, with plenty of areas for employees to walk and enjoy. Along with the drastic exterior changes, the company will also have plenty of social hubs, an atrium area, collaborative workspaces, and flexible office designs that can expand if needed to accommodate different sized teams. There will also be a plaza where employees can gather for special events.
In total, Microsoft will add 18 new buildings, along with updating existing workspaces. This move will add 2.5 million square feet of new office space. Although the project is set to start in fall of 2018, it won"t be completed for another five to seven years after that.
