Microsoft rolls out new updates to Office Insiders in the Fast ring

As it typically does on Fridays, Microsoft has published the release notes for the latest builds of the Office suite of apps for Insiders in the Fast ring, both on Windows and macOS. The updates only add a couple of minor improvements.

Starting with macOS, where the Office apps are now at version 16.34, only Outlook has received any notable changes. Specifically, Microsoft has re-enabled the nested compose experience. The team has also fixed a number of issues, including one where, if the app is in dark mode, some content might flash and revert back to light mode. Here"s the full list of fixes:

  • Overall: improved stability and performance
  • Mail: The message compose window will no longer prompt to save or discard a draft if no changes have been made to the draft
  • Dark Mode: Fixed issues where dark mode content flashed and sometimes reset to back to light mode
  • Message List: Email group headers now correctly show up as headers (and not emails)
  • Calendar: Propose New Time will now be hidden when disabled by the event organizer
  • Calendar: Scheduling assistant will now show free/busy data when looking several months ahead
  • Calendar: Now when an appointment is converted to a meeting, the "Invitation Sent/Not Sent" info-bar will show the correct message
  • Calendar: Fixed a crash when entering an invalid date into the recurring event date picker input field

Over on the Windows side of things, the apps are on version 2002, with build number 12508.20000, and the only notable addition is in Word. E-mail notifications for @mentions now include a preview of the text and comment thread where the mention is made, and it"s also possible to reply to the mention directly from the e-mail message. Aside from that, the only other change is in Excel, where Microsoft fixed an issue with the Accessibility checker not showing recommendations for shapes.

Note that these updates are rolled out gradually, and the macOS updates specifically are dated for January 15, so you may have already seen the new features. If you haven"t yet, they should make their way to your machine soon.
