Microsoft said to be planning 'experiential' store-in-store retail spaces in the UK

Back in mid-2012, a report claimed that Microsoft was planning to open its first UK retail store in London in March 2013. Of course, that never actually happened - and in fact, Microsoft opened its very first flagship store outside of North America this week, in Sydney, Australia.

But it seems Microsoft"s plans to establish a physical retail presence in the UK haven"t been completely abandoned - although whether it intends to open a similar flagship store there remains to be seen.

According to The Register, Microsoft is instead considering "store within a store" locations, which would allow it to operate branded retail spaces with fewer of the costs associated with opening its own network of dedicated stores.

The report claims that Microsoft UK executives "have briefed property investment companies" on its plans, adding that the company is "working with retailers for experiential stores", although it did not elaborate further on exactly what that might entail.

Microsoft is no stranger to the store-in-store concept, as it already operates hundreds of similar locations across North America.
