Microsoft is sending out invites to members of the press for the launch of its Windows 8 operating system. The event will take place in New York City on October 25. Microsoft previously announced that Windows 8 and its Surface tablet would launch on October 26th, so Microsoft could be planning a midnight launch of the product.
The Surface tablet will come in two flavors, one powered by an Intel 22nm Ivy Bridge running Windows 8 and another powered by an ARM chipset and running Windows 8 RT. Both versions will have a 10.6-inch ClearType HD display.
Microsoft started development on Windows 8 back in 2009. Windows 8 features a complete change in the operating system"s GUI and platform, with a new design language, start screen, app store, and an emphasis on touchscreen input.
