Microsoft is gunning for open source software this week by signing a new three year deal with the UK Government. Microsoft has indicated that it will help the public sector get more out of IT by supplying extra support and services rather than cutting licence fees.

Microsoft"s current contract with the UK government is due to expire early next year. It"s not clear what will be in the new deal but it"s likely to be a significant step in the drive for modernising the UK government.
