Earlier this week, Microsoft announced some plans to offer in-app advertisements for Windows 8. Microsoft revealed those plans as part of their push at the France-based ad trade show the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Microsoft is also hosting a Digital Lounge at the show and in the above YouTube video (via Next at Microsoft), the company shows off an interesting item in the lounge; a Nokia gift machine.
The machine, which resembles a soft drink can dispenser, works in combination with the Foursquare app. People at the event can simply log onto a smartphone with the app installed and let them know that they have arrived at the Nokia gift machine location. When that happens, the machine senses that login and pushes out a gift.
In the video the Microsoft rep gets a Mars candy bar but the machine can also spit out other random gifts, including, apparently Lumia smartphones.
The video also shows another contest where attendees with special tags can place them on a Microsoft Surface tablet to see if they win a prize. Apparently someone forgot to tell the folks in Cannes that "Surface" has now been renamed PixelSense in the wake of the Microsoft Surface tablet reveal.
