Microsoft shows off new Internet Explorer TV ad

Microsoft is getting ready to promote Internet Explorer in a big way with a new television commercial that is scheduled to make its debut sometime tonight. The official IE blog site has more information on the ad, as well as the commercial itself, which makes use of the song "Too Close" by UK-based singer Alex Clare.

The commercial was directed by Keith Rivers, who has created a number of videos and ads for Microsoft in the past, according to his personal web site. The new Internet Explorer commercial showcases a number of graphically rich HTML5 web sites and experiences, including the free version of the game Cut the Rope which Microsoft launched for IE 9 in January.

Microsoft"s press release announcing the ad puts a lot of emphasis on the song "Too Close." According to Rivers:

What makes Alex Clare’s song so complementary to the advertisement is that it’s filled with uplifting energy and vocals that speak to what Internet Explorer stands for, a humble force powering your Web experience. The song carries you through a journey and re-energizes you, and Internet Explorer is all about that, giving the power to the user to focus on what you care about.

There"s no word on which network or shows the new Internet Explorer commercial will be seen tonight.
