Today, Microsoft started telling the developer story around its two upcoming dual-screen devices, the Surface Neo and the Surface Duo. In a blog post, the firm outlined its plans to introduce a common model to work between the Windows based Surface Neo PC, and the Android-based Surface Duo smartphone.
First of all, the Redmond company was very clear that existing apps and websites will work just fine with the new hardware. Apps include UWP and Win32 apps on the Surface Neo, and Android apps on the Surface Duo. Obviously, there will have to be a bridge between the apps on, which is where something like Project Rome comes into play.
Microsoft says that it"s "in the process of identifying key postures and layouts across dual-screen and foldable PCs so that you can take advantage of both." The common model will be built on top of platform-specific tools and frameworks, and it will be made so that developers can take advantage of the unique hardware.
More importantly, if you"re a developer, you can request early access. You can email dualscreendev@microsoft.com to learn more, and Microsoft says it will have more to share in early 2020.
