Earlier this month, many users reported that they were experiencing freezing issues on their PCs after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. A few days ago, Microsoft confirmed this problem, stating that it occurs when users install the OS on a separate SSD, with apps and data installed on another drive. The company stated that it"s investigating the issue and posted workarounds until a universal fix is found.
The aforementioned problem usually involves a system freeze after logging in, which renders the device unresponsive. Now, Microsoft has updated and locked the related forum thread, stating that while it still hasn"t managed to reach a universally stable solution, it has collected log files and several user reports, through which the company aims to fix the problem.
The Redmond giant has once again emphasized that only a "small set of users" with the OS and data installed on separate drives are facing freezing problems, and for the rest, the update is working as intended.
In addition to the workarounds it mentioned in the original post, Microsoft is also endorsing solutions submitted by users. The company states that:
[...] The community has also reported a number of their own solutions including logging into a second account (which then fixed the first one) or uninstall of an older antivirus program and then installing the latest version.
Microsoft has also mentioned that since it has now gathered the required amount of data it needs, as well as the fact that the 49-page thread has been derailed several times by customers who are facing other issues, the company is now locking the thread, which means that users won"t be able to post more replies.
Regardless, the Redmond giant says that it is still listening to user feedback, and will update the thread based on its progress in resolving the issue, once again reminding users to subscribe to the thread to receive notifications on future updates.
