In March, Microsoft finally released its promised version of the Surface 2 tablet with support for LTE wireless networks in the U.S. This week, Microsoft started taking pre-orders for the tablet on its UK retail website for the price of £539.
That price is a pretty steep one for citizens in the UK; the current exchange rate means the cost is about $904 in the U.S. By contrast, Microsoft is currently selling the Surface 2 LTE for $679 over in the U.S. but it only works currently on AT&T"s LTE network. There"s no such wireless provider restriction named for the UK model.
The website indicates that shipments of the Surface 2 LTE model will begin on May 8th in the UK. On the same day, a number of other retailers such as Dixons, Currys and PC World will start selling the tablet. As with the U.S launch, the UK version will only be available in one model with 64 GB of storage. It will also give owners 200 GB of free OneDrive cloud storage for two years along with an unlimited number of voice minutes to land lines in 60 countries via the Skype app for one year.
