While Microsoft"s retail stores and websites in the U.S. and Canada have sold Nokia"s Lumia phones directly to consumers for some time, that has not been the case for the U.K. Microsoft Store site. This week, about a month after Microsoft acquired Nokia"s smartphone division, the UK Microsoft Store site finally started offering Nokia Lumia devices with Windows Phone to residents across the pond.
At the moment, the Microsoft Store UK site is only selling three Nokia Lumia smartphones. Two of them are the older, but higher end, 6-inch devices: The Lumia 1520, priced at £549, and the 1320 for £329. The third smartphone is the recently launched Lumia 630, which the Microsoft Store site is selling for £129. All of the prices are off-contract and include the VAT charge.
We are still waiting for Microsoft to open a brick-and-mortar retail store outside the U.S. and Canada. The company now has over 90 main and specialty stores open in North America but the company has yet to expand that physical store presence outside those borders, although it did claim in 2013 that it was planning to open several stores in China.
