Microsoft: Surface Pro headed to UK, Australia, Europe and more next month

We still don"t know for sure just how popular Microsoft"s Surface tablets are, since the company has remained frustratingly tight-lipped on the subject of sales figures. The broad consensus on estimates is that around 1.5m of the devices have been sold so far, although the relatively narrow range of markets in which they have been made available until now hasn"t exactly helped matters.

While the Surface RT model has been launched in 25 markets around the world so far, the Windows 8 Pro version has so far only been released in the United States, Canada and China. For those wanting to get their greasy paws on the Surface Pro, Microsoft has today confirmed details of plans to aggressively expand availability internationally.

Before the end of May, Surface Pro will launch in the following markets:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • New Zealand
  • The Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom

By the end of June, Microsoft will also make the Surface Pro available in:

  • Malaysia
  • Russia
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Thailand

There"s good news for those wanting to grab a Surface RT too. On April 25, it will launch in Malaysia, with Mexico being added by the end of May, and South Korea and Thailand by the end of June.

As part of its announcement, Microsoft revealed that "one of our biggest challenges has been keeping our 128GB Surface Pro in stock", hinting at strong demand for the product - although the company again stopped short of revealing any numbers on sales.
