Microsoft Teams for Android adds support for dark theme and more

The dark theme has been taking over a variety of Microsoft products over the past several months. Today, the latest service from the software giant to add support for that design is the Teams workplace chat app for Android.

Microsoft Teams has received a bunch of new features and improvements as part of its latest update on the Google Play Store. In addition to the dark theme, the update also introduces the capability to record and send audio files from inside the app. Here"s the full changelog:

  • Dark theme support
  • Record and send audio messages
  • Improved PDF viewing experience
  • Add a note to an RSVP
  • Choose your audio, video, or phone* preferences before joining a meeting
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements
  • *Requires Phone System license

Teams already supports dark mode ever since it was launched in March 2017 out of preview for all Office 365 customers. The latest update to the app"s Android version is a welcome development for users of Google"s mobile operating system as it helps reduce eye strain and save battery life.

Support for dark theme has yet to arrive on Teams for iOS, though it may not take long before that happens. Most recently, the workplace chat app was reportedly set to add a new capability later this year that will allow users to replace their background in addition to blurring it.
