Microsoft teams up with Maxie McCoy and MOO to help you Land Your Dream Job

Microsoft says it wants to help you land your dream job - so it"s teamed up with careers expert Maxie McCoy, and digital print and design firm MOO, "to bring you the tools, advice and inspiration you need to begin your career doing something you love".

The new Land Your Dream Job site is aimed particularly at graduates, and Microsoft said that its efforts were inspired by the responses of a survey it commissioned from Ipsos, in which 1,000 18- to 25-year-olds were asked for their thoughts on developing their new careers.

Among the insights revealed by the survey are these highlights:

  • 45% of respondents were not confident that they would land their dream job or internship
  • 23% said they hope to pursue a job in technology or engineering
  • 59% use Microsoft Word to put together their résumés
  • 50% have done a Skype interview over the last five years
  • Over 30% of those who had done a Skype interview did so from the bathroom or a conference room at their current job
  • 3% of respondents said they had done a Skype interview while wearing no pants

As Microsoft explained today:

We put together our best tips for how to design a show-stopping resume and how to have an unforgettable Skype interview. We also worked together with MOO to create new cover letter and resume templates in Microsoft Word. And because over 30 percent of respondents surveyed are considering an online-only resume, we’ve created blog post, portfolio and resume templates in the digital storytelling app, Sway.

We’ve always designed Skype and Office tools with the needs of students and workers in mind, but we hope these new resources provide the extra boost needed to stand out and land that dream job.

Students can also get 15% off their first purchase of business cards from MOO.com, although the company is currently offering 25% off all purchases until July 20.
