Microsoft Teams will soon allow users to add up to 1,000 participants in a meeting chat

The coronavirus pandemic has seen a rise in the use of Microsoft Teams, that recently soared past 115 million daily active users. To compete with other similar apps, Microsoft has been working on adding new features to Teams based on user feedback.

Earlier this year, Microsoft increased the participant limit on Teams to 300 and the company is now working to push the limit to 1,000. According to Microsoft"s roadmap, the feature is currently under development and is scheduled to roll out later this month. Along with the increased participants limit, Microsoft also plans to make the following changes on January 1, 2021:

  • Up to 20,000 attendees per event
  • Up to 50 simultaneous events per Teams tenant
  • Up to 16 hours per broadcast

While Microsoft is expected to offer the increased participant limit to everyone, the rest of the features will be a part of Microsoft"s Advanced Communications add-on for Teams and will cost $12 per user/month.

Microsoft has also rolled out a bunch of features for Teams including the ability to pop out chats into dedicated windows as well as added official support for custom backgrounds. Recently the company also published a list of features and improvements made to Teams in October. These included live transcription, Spotlight, a revamped notifications settings page as well as the availability of Teams for ARM devices like the Surface Pro X.
