Originally announced at Gamescom in August 2013, and launched in 2014, Microsoft plays host to ID@Xbox, a program allowing registered developers to get access to two development kits, the Unity engine and (optionally) the Unreal Engine 4. Games such as Rocket League and Super Time Force are examples of how the program has helped indie developers and studios branch out to the Xbox fanbase.
Now, Microsoft is celebrating the program and the developers who have made it a success, with May being used as a month-long event to promote some of the great titles and the developers who made them. It’s time for the ID@Xbox Game Fest.
Starting 3rd May Microsoft will highlight new releases, showcase developers, offer discounts, and generally spread the word about what is available. Here’s what’s planned:
- May 3-9: Discover. Time to experience something new, from a genre to a a developer.
- May 10-13: Play for Free. Get out there and start playing those free-to-play titles such as ROBLOX
- May 17-23: What’s next? Preview the upcoming indie hits.
- May 24-30: Best of ID@Xbox. Discount time on existing standout titles!
Chris Charla, Head of ID@Xbox has said:
Looking at the titles we’re featuring in the ID@Xbox Game Fest, it’s hard to believe so many great titles have come through ID@Xbox over the past couple of years. I’m stoked to go back and replay some of these titles, and check out any gems I may have missed!
