Microsoft has, at least until now, been fairly open about when users can expect to see software updates for its Windows Phone mobile operating system. In fact the company posted up a web site called Where"s My Phone Update that gave out information about when the updates would be released to wireless carriers and specific Windows Phone devices around the world.
Now, in the newest post on the Windows Phone blog, Microsoft"s Eric Hautala says that things will be changing as far as offering information about Windows Phone software updates. He writes:
As we continue our growth, we won’t be individually detailing country, model, and carrier details on the Where’s My Phone Update? site any longer. And instead of my weekly blog posts, the official Windows Phone website will be the primary place for news and information about our updates, just as Microsoft Answers is there for your support questions.
Hautala also mentioned that the new 8107 update for Windows Phone is being released which we reported on earlier this week. He adds, "In the months ahead, we’ll continue to send out firmware and maintenance updates as needed. These will be available across the globe—although not everybody will receive or require them. It depends on your country, carrier, and phone model."
It"s too bad that Microsoft has chosen to cut back on the information that is given out to the public on their Windows Phone updates. We suspect that hardcore Windows Phone users might decide to contact Microsoft and request that this kind of information be made available once again.
