Microsoft to give game video creators a chance to get a free Xbox One

One of the biggest features of Microsoft"s Xbox One game console, the Upload Studio, is now the center of a new contest. The goal is to have creative video makers submit clips of Xbox 360 and Xbox One games that, if picked by Microsoft, will net them a free Xbox One console, among other prizes.

The Upload Studio is designed to let Xbox One owners automatically record footage of games and then quickly edit and upload them to various locations. While the Xbox One won"t launch until sometime in November, Microsoft is asking video creators to go ahead and submit game clips of up to one minute each to public video sites like YouTube and Vimeo as part its new Upload Outreach program.

Once the clips are uploaded, the creators can then email links to the videos to uploadvideo@microsoft.com by Sept. 15. Unlike other contests, this one is open for submissions in a number of countries, including the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Canada (excluding Quebec), Australia, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, Austria and Ireland. A group of judges at Microsoft will pick the top 20 winners, based on "originality, imaginative use of video incorporating video games extracts and quality of content within the video." Those winners will not only win an Xbox One console, but a selection of launch games and a free one year Xbox Live Gold subscription.

The most interesting part of the prize package is that the winners will get "future opportunities to create videos with the Upload development team." It"s unknown what exactly this might mean, but it sounds like really talented video makers could find an extra source of income as a result of their creations.
