Microsoft to hold global Windows app developer event May 16-17

Microsoft wants more Modern UI apps to be made available for download in both the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store. This weekend, the company is holding a massive global event that will encourage developers to make new apps, even ones that they have already started on their own.

The event is called //Publish/ and it will be held on Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17 in 60 cities located in 38 different countries on six continents. In a blog post, Microsoft said that //Publish/ is a bit different than the typical hackathon event in that developers can bring in apps that they are in the middle of creating, rather than starting an app completely from scratch.

Microsoft says that the event will give publishers access to Microsoft engineers and team members for one-on-one consulting and coaching on how to finish their Windows 8 and/or Windows Phone app. The final goal is to get those developers to finish their creations and have them published in the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store before the end of this weekend.

The PublishWindows.com website has more information on the event, including the full list of locations. Microsoft is also holding a contest for the best apps that are published in both stores by June 1st with a number of different categories and prizes.
