A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft sent out "save the date" emails to journalists, announcing an event on October 2. Today, the company sent out formal invitations, confirming that the event will be at 10am Eastern Time at Starrett Lehigh, and that it will be live-streamed.
This is a big difference from last year"s event, which was held on the same date. Last year"s event was held in a smaller venue at 4pm, and it wasn"t live-streamed. At the same time, that event was somewhat dull, including spec bumps for the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, a somewhat more meaningful update for the Surface Studio, and Surface Headphones.
Hopefully, the different time and the fact that it will be live-streamed means that Microsoft is planning something a bit more exciting. We"re already expecting to see a Surface Pro 7 with Intel 10th-generation CPUs and an AMD Ryzen-powered Surface Laptop. Surface Book 3 with 10th-gen CPUs and new Nvidia GPUs also seems likely, since the Surface Book 2 is about two years old.
We"ve also heard that there will be a Snapdragon 8cx-powered Surface Pro, along with official ARM64 support for the company"s new Chromium-based Edge browser. It"s unclear if this model will actually be called "Pro", or if Microsoft will try to differentiate from its Intel Surface Pro lineup.
And of course, there are the long-shots. Microsoft could show off its dual-screen Centaurus PC, as well as the rumored Windows Lite software that it will use. Those aren"t expected to arrive until next year, but it"s always possible that the Redmond firm might show them off, especially with foldable PCs incoming.
Feel free to try and read the tea leaves on the new image sent out with the invitation. Let us know what you think it is in the comments!
