Microsoft to preview their Windows tablet OS next week

Hot off the heels of Ballmer talking about Google"s tablet strategy being a failure so far, the latest in the rumour mill claims that Microsoft is going to debut their Windows tablet operating system next week.

As there has been very little talk about Windows tablets, let alone a tablet operating systems, Microsoft appears to be prepared to debut their latest creation to the world next week. Bloomberg reports that Microsoft will showcase a the tablets touch-screen hardware, running an Nvidia Tegra chip.

According to the reports, three people within Microsoft who are familiar with the project, said Microsoft will demonstrate the tablet next week. They wouldn"t give any specifics of the hardware or release dates, as the project is still top secret.

This is one market where Microsoft could potentially come out on top and rival Apple"s iPad. There are currently a couple of Windows 7-based tablets on the market right now, but they also come with a hefty price tag.

Earlier this year, Microsoft unveiled an early build of Windows 8 to a private group of people at CES 2011. This preview showed the next major operating system from Microsoft running on an ARM processor.
