Microsoft to release Flash vulnerability fix for Windows 8 "shortly"

Last week, it was revealed that the RTM users of Windows 8 had an earlier version of Adobe"s Flash Player installed that had some known security vulnerabilities. At the time, a Microsoft spokesperson was quoted as saying that " ... we will have a security update coming through Windows Update in the GA timeframe." However, that meant that users of Windows 8 may have had to wait until on or around October 26th to receive the Flash update.

Now it seems that attitude has changed. ZDNet.com reports that, according to a new statement from Microsoft:

In light of Adobe’s recently released security updates for its Flash Player, Microsoft is working closely with Adobe to release an update for Adobe Flash in IE10 to protect our mutual customers. This update will be available shortly. Ultimately, our goal is to make sure the Flash Player in Windows 8 is always secure and up-to-date, and to align our release schedule as closely to Adobe’s as possible.

Microsoft made a big deal earlier this year about its support of Flash Player in Internet Explorer 10 and Windows 8, even with with "Modern" version of IE 10 not able to download and install the standard plug-in software.
