Microsoft Translator adds Bangla as a supported language

Microsoft Translator supports over 50 languages, including everything from Afrikaans to Yucatec Maya. The service is excellent for knocking down language barriers, and it even supports two different kinds of Klingon, which is surely helpful if you happen to serve onboard the USS Enterprise.

The company is adding one more language to its arsenal today: Bangla. It"s available wherever Translator is supported, in products like Outlook, Bing, Cortana, Edge, SharePoint, and Yammer. You can also use it to instantly translate Skype messages, so naturally, we tried it out.

Initial results weren"t very promising, but after feeling it out a bit, they got a little better.

Of course, the new language support is only for text-based translation. Real-time translation in voice and video calls is still only supported in nine languages, as that takes a bit more work to function properly. You can find instructions for turning on Translator in Skype at this link.

You can also use the Microsoft Translator web app to start a conversation, or join an existing one. If you"re starting one, you"ll get a conversation code that you can share with others that you want to join in.
