Today, Microsoft is introducing the Surface Laptop Go, its new entry-level laptop. The name says it all, as the Laptop Go does for the Surface Laptop what the Surface Go did for the Surface Pro. It comes in a smaller, lighter package, and it comes in at a lower price point.
The Surface Laptop Go comes with an Intel Core i5-1035G1, a key difference from the Pentium-wielding Surface Go. It also comes with 4GB or 8GB LPDDR4x RAM (16GB is available in the Surface Laptop Go for Business), and either 64GB eMMC storage or an SSD that can be 128GB or 256GB.
The screen is the big difference though, as it"s 12.45 inches, an inch smaller than the existing Surface Laptop 3. It"s also got a lower resolution at 1536x1024, giving it a 148ppi pixel density. For comparison, the Surface Laptop 3 has a 201ppi display.
One other change is in the keyboard, where you"ll find a fingerprint sensor in the power button. It has One Touch sign-in, meaning that it scans your fingerprint when you press the button, rather than forcing you to do it after it boots up. Note that the fingerprint sensor does not come on the base model with 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC.
Other than that, it"s pretty much a smaller Surface Laptop 3. It"s still made of aluminum, and it comes in colors like Ice Blue, Sandstone, and Platinum. It"s got the same ports too, including Surface Connect, USB Type-C, and USB Type-A.
All of that comes in a package that starts at $549. You"ll be able to buy one starting on October 13, but you can pre-order starting today.
