Microsoft unveils the Surface Pro 7+ with Tiger Lake, 4G LTE, and removable SSD

Today, Microsoft is announcing the Surface Pro 7+, a bumped up version of the Surface Pro 7 that"s designed for businesses and educational customers. This is a bit similar to the Surface Pro X refresh from last year, where the product got a spec bump but not a generational change.

There are a few key changes with the Surface Pro 7+. Firstly, it comes with Intel"s 11th-generation "Tiger Lake" processors, including the Core i3-1115G4, Core i5-1135G7, or Core i7-1165G7. While this device is aimed directly at businesses, there are no vPro options, unlike the other business PCs that are being announced this week at CES. Tiger Lake processors also come with Intel"s Iris Xe graphics, so you should get a serious GPU boost, something that"s important for a tablet like this one.

It also comes with 4G LTE, something that we haven"t seen in the Pro since the fifth-generation model. It has a Snapdragon X20 4G LTE modem, and once again, it"s only available in the Core i5 configuration. With the fifth-gen model, that was because Microsoft made the Core i5 model fanless, and put the modem where the fan would be. It"s unclear if that was the strategy here as well.

Microsoft is also adding removable storage, something that was previously exclusive to the Surface Pro X and Surface Laptop 3. While you could absolutely replace your own storage instead of paying Microsoft"s expensive prices for SSD upgrades, this is meant so that you can destroy your data when disposing of the PC.

The Surface Pro 7+ starts at $899, or $1,149 for the 4G LTE variants. It comes with up to 32GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 1TB SSD. Other than that, nothing has changed from the Surface Pro 7. It weighs 1.7 pounds, has the same bezels, and the same ports.
