In February of this year, Microsoft finally announced the successor to its augmented reality headset, the HoloLens 2. The new version of the device includes better weight distribution for more comfort, a new carbon fiber build, a wider field of view, and support for finger tracking. The device is also powered by Qualcomm"s Snapdragon 850, rather than the Intel chip used in the original HoloLens.
The device was first aimed at businesses, with only the commercial edition being announced. More recently, the company announced the Development Edition, saying it would be available later in the year. Now, according to the company"s executive vice president Harry Shum, it looks like the HoloLens 2 will be available to buy in September, as reported by Reuters.
The statement was made by Shum while speaking at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, which is taking place in Shanghai. However, a more specific release date wasn"t given. The timeframe does fall in line with reports from late last year, before the device was even announced.
The HoloLens 2 Development Edition will cost $3,500, which is a bit more than the original model"s cost. According to previous announcements, though, the headset will be available to buy in plans for around $99 per month.
