Washington DC will be the setting for a major meeting of 15 tech company executives with President Barack Obama. That meeting will include Brad Smith, the vice president and general counsel for Microsoft.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Smith will be joined in the meeting by Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, and Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, among others.
One of the big topics of this gathering will be for the executives to personally discuss their concerns over the U.S. government"s use of data for intelligence purposes with President Obama. A few days ago, Microsoft joined with many other companies in signing an open letter asking for reforms in government surveillance policies. The letter was the latest chapter in a saga that began when former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden leaked documents to the media claiming that the NSA had accessed data from Microsoft and other tech businesses for their spy activities.
Other topics at the meeting will include discussing the continued progress towards fixing the government"s Healthcare.gov website and how technology companies can help to boost the overall U.S economy.
