With less than a month to go before Microsoft"s Xbox One launches to the masses on Nov. 22, company reps are still making the rounds on Internet message boards to assure people that rumors of major software issues with the console are overblown. One of them is Microsoft"s Xbox marketing head Albert Penello, who posted a lengthy message on Reddit this week.
The post include some comments on the software rumor front, with Penello stating:
There is nothing going on behind the scenes nearly as interesting as everyone would like to believe. We are a month away from launch, and people are working hard to finalize the last of the bugs. There are still a lot things left to be done. We’re crunching and I’m sure Sony’s crunching too.
Penello also commented on why Microsoft has yet to release a long video look at the Xbox One dashboard, stating that the company would have to go through an extensive process to obtain the rights for every game, app, movie, TV show and music video shown on the UI. Microsoft has released a brief clip that does show an example of how the UI and Kinect voice interaction works, all with approved assets from the content holders. Penello said that press organizations don"t have those kinds of rights restrictions and are currently checking out the Xbox One. He stated, "I’m sure you’ll be hearing back from them about how close this video is."
Finally, Penello also stated how the new UI video differs from how the actual Xbox One UI works. While there are a few minor differences, he said the only major error in the video is when the player says "Xbox Share," it appears that a gameplay clip from Titanfall is shared instantly. In fact, Penello says that in the real world, Xbox One users would "have to accept the notification or go to Upload Studio and share from there. We don’t share directly with voice."
Microsoft has already announced there will be an automatic Day One patch for the Xbox One that will take 15 to 20 minutes to download the first time the console is turned on. However, the company has yet to give any details of what will be contained in the patch.
