Almost two months ago, Microsoft announced its newest Lumia Denim firmware, accompanying the latest version of its mobile OS, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1. Denim is already available on new devices like the Lumia 735 and Lumia 830, and will shortly begin rolling out to earlier handsets.
But there are many devices out there still waiting for the previous round of updates: Windows Phone 8.1, which was announced in April, along with the Lumia Cyan firmware that accompanies it - both of which began rolling out to handsets in July. Among those still waiting are customers of Verizon Wireless, including owners of the Lumia 822, Lumia 928 and the flagship Lumia Icon.
Today, Microsoft"s Joe Belfiore tweeted some info on the rollout of Cyan and 8.1 in the US. There was good news for T-Mobile customers with confirmation that the update will soon make its way to the carrier"s Lumia 521.
However, while Belfiore also acknowledged that work is "underway" to bring the updates to Verizon, he described their arrival as being "farther off". In a second tweet, he said that Verizon is "taking the quality [of the update] seriously", and that efforts are ongoing to sort out some bugs, but added: "We aren"t sure how long it will take."
Given how long it"s taking to get Cyan and Windows Phone 8.1 into the hands of users, it"s anyone guess how long it will be before all handsets get Lumia Denim and Update 1. Microsoft told us that it aims to get all Lumia phones updated to Denim by Christmas in the UK - but around the world, many users could face much a longer wait at this rate.
