Microsoft will begin rolling out Windows 10 Redstone 2 Insider Preview builds in August

In a blog post today, Dona Sarkar outlined what"s next for the Windows Insider Program, confirming that new Insider Preview builds will be released in August. The news isn"t entirely surprising, as the Anniversary Update rolls out on Tuesday.

The codename for the Anniversary Update was Redstone, so next in line is - you guessed it - Redstone 2. According to rumors, Redstone 2 will focus more on Windows 10 Mobile than its predecessors, and it will arrive in April, 2017.

Windows 10 launched exactly one year ago and it is now installed on 350 million devices. In fact, Microsoft provided that number a month ago, so it"s presumably on quite a bit more by now. Of course, that also means that the free upgrade offer is over at the end of the day today.

The company released 28 PC and 20 Mobile builds for the Anniversary Update, which is more than it did for the original release or for the November Update. Insiders have provided "70 million pieces of feedback this year alone and 5,000+ (including bug fixes, UI changes, feature requests, etc.) improvements to Windows 10 based on Windows Insider feedback."

Of course, Windows 10 is never actually done, and Microsoft aims to provide two major updates per year. With the Anniversary Update right around the corner, Insiders should ready themselves for more builds, and more new features.
