A big part of Microsoft’s internal resources is currently devoted to Windows 10 and its upcoming launch. But come the end of July, and that focus shifts to Windows 10 Mobile, which is good news for insiders, who are frustrated by the current quality of the operating system.
With its launch quickly approaching, it’s no surprise that so much effort is currently being poured into getting Windows 10 ready for prime time. The new OS represents Microsoft’s hopes and dreams for the future, as well as a significant break from the past. The company wants the new operating system to delight its users and spread as far as possible in a short time. With hundreds of millions of potential customers looking to upgrade, a lot is riding on getting Windows 10 right.
But that has meant that other projects, such as the mobile version of the OS, have taken a back seat in recent weeks. And Windows Insiders have noticed this change, with the first line of evidence being the semi-usable state of the latest builds of Windows 10 Mobile.
Luckily, according to Greg Sullivan, communications director for Microsoft Devices, users will see big changes on this front in the near future. Sullivan, quoted by PCWorld, says that resources inside the Windows 10 team will be moved over to the Mobile side of things once the desktop operating system launches. In fact, that effort will supposedly get underway in early July, with the Mobile team focusing on bug fixes and stability.
That being said, you should be aware that this won’t be a big a change as some are making it out to be. The Windows 10 team was never completely focused on desktop and completely ignoring mobile – Microsoft has enough talent and resources to develop both simultaneously, and they have done just that. And an internal focus shift will making the OS better, but by no means will it change everything overnight.
In fact, if the Mobile version of Windows 10 is mirroring the desktop development of the operating system, then you should expect better, more stable builds around the two month mark before launch – currently slated for very late September, or early October. Meaning early August will probably be the time when Windows 10 Mobile will become usable on daily drivers.
Still, there’s a long time to go until then, and there’s a huge launch coming up, so many things may still change in the meantime. And we’ll be covering all of it so stay tuned.
