On the second Tuesday of every month, Microsoft releases patches for all of its software platforms. The day, commonly referred to as "Patch Tuesday," arrives next week and this time around is a bit lighter in updates than the past couple of months.
There are six bulletins for this month"s releases, which is far less than last month which had 59 updates for Internet Explorer alone. As usual, Microsoft does not give specific details about how to execute the vulnerabilities as the bugs are still open at this time and they don"t want to provide those with devious intentions an easy list of open vulnerabilities to exploit.
Microsoft has always been open about patching its software and for those of you who were concerned about the company ending the practice of sending out email alerts about the updates, the practice has been resumed. The initial issue causing the patches to be stopped was believed to be related to a Canadian anti-spam law being passed but that concern has been remediated.
The good news is that these issues will patched and for a machine that is updated on Tuesday, you will have nothing to worry about. If you want to learn more about what was patched, you can read the full list at Microsoft"s site.
